Are Porcelain Veneers Right for You?

Veneers improve aesthetic, function, and self-esteem for a person. Porcelain veneers aim to correct sever discolorations, chipped teeth, misalignments, and mild spaces. In the cases of poor oral hygiene, traumatic occlusion, and severe malposition of the teeth, porcelain veneers are not recommended.

Simple teeth discoloration can be fixed through whitening procedures while other cases may require orthodontic treatments prior to veneers in order to achieve the perfect aesthetic result.

Thorough clinical and radiographic exams are required to evaluate the overall health of your teeth and gums. During this assessment, any essential treatments prior to veneers including fillings, root canal, periodontal therapy, or orthodontic treatment will be discussed between you and your dentist. Your dentist will also discuss your concerns, expectations, and explain the procedure and final outcome in detail.

Digital smile design techniques allow dental professionals to simulate the result, so patients can see photos of what the result will show. Consultations typically last about an hour and the procedure to complete the veneers takes two sessions. In the first session, impressions are taken, and temporary restorations are put into place. The second session is when final restorations are tested and fitted.

How Can You Maintain Your New Veneers?

  • Meticulous oral hygiene
  • Regular dental hygiene visits
  • Wear your night guard, if recommended by your dentist
